Christmas Tale: Soft By Candlelight

Sitting under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
One last candle burning low,
All the sleepy dancers gone,
Just one candle burning on,
Shadows lurking everywhere:
Some one came, and kissed me there.

Tired I was; my head would go
Nodding under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
No footsteps came, no voice, but only,
Just as I sat there, sleepy, lonely,
Stooped in the still and shadowy air
Lips unseen—and kissed me there.

  2. Hats off to Granny Kiki for envisioning and making that beautiful dress. And to you for saving and wearing it and thinking of adding the crown to it. These shots are magical. Wood spirit in the bedroom, more like an enchanted castle nook. How great that you could collaborate with your mother in this shoot.

  4. Dear Emalina, how magical is this Tale, so cosy and candle-lit behind drawn drapes, with tantalizing bits of the outdoors brought in - the berry crown atop your lovely loose locks, the holly and roses - and of course the incredible generational gown. Warmest best to you & yours, xo

  5. Wishing you fine festivities with feasting, family and friends. What a magical location, dress and lighting. Love the fact that you were able to 'play' dress-up in your parents' room and with your mum's collaboration.

  6. Oh, this is perfection! Myriads of candles, dressing up lavishly, and staying home on a cozy winter's night all by myself is one of my favorite things. Beautiful!

  7. Beautiful! I remember quite liking Walter de la Mare when we had to read his poems in school. This is a lovely way to illustrate this poem, and the photo of the rose, candles and beautiful things on the dressing table feels like a fine brandy softening all the sharp edges. Makes me appreciate the beauty of the dark.
