In Contemplation Of Growing Things

Don't go outside your house to see the flowers,
My friend, don't bother with that excursion.
Inside your body there are flowers.
One flower has a thousand petals.
That will do for a place to sit.
Sitting there you will have a glimpse of beauty
inside the body and out of it,
before gardens and after gardens.

The Outfit
Vintage Chinese Blue Silk Dressing Gown: from a vintage market in my Manchester days in the 90s
Blue Striped Body Con Dress; very old (and now very streeeeetched!) from Topshop
Vintage Fur Stole: passed down from late Granny Kiki
Vintage Chinese Parasol: passed down from late Granny Kiki

The Soundtrack:
Gregorian Chant

Photos taken by me using the self timer on my little digital camera.

I'm grateful for all your kind messages and brilliant advice on what to wear when breastfeeding (special thanks to Radostin and Curtise, for being so reassuring and helpful my dears).
The pregnancy is going well, although inevitably rather exhausting. Believe it or not I have until the start of June before I give birth (I know! How big will I be by then?!), and in the meantime I'm enjoying embracing the fullness and vitality of my ever growing, moving bump.

  1. I've been on the look out for wrapover-topped dresses for you, but only seen a couple in not very exciting colours; I'll keep looking! You look beautiful, the silk dressing gown is lovely, and perfect with the parasol. Yes, pregnant bellies get to be quite a size, don't they? But then there are two little people growing in there! It's very exciting! xxx

  2. I just knew the stole and parasol would be from your Granny Kiki. Lovely poetry, lovely sunshine, lovely You! Short waisted women such as yourself, always have more visible baby bumps. There just isn't the space in your torso for growing baby, or in your case, babies! Yep! You will be larger, but you are adorable!!! Try and stay as rested as you can.

  3. You look gorgeous and I admire the magical quality of your pictures. There's something tender and sweet about these in particular! I think it's the umbrella, the light and your lovely shape. These pictures will be wonderful to share with your child in the future.

  5. Happy lady! Looking lovely and willowy in pregnancy. My own mother unkindly told me I looked like an elephant baby myself ... sadly, she was right. I'm so glad you're documenting your pretty self. This is an additional gift you have!

  10. 'Awesome' is a word I rarely use, if at all - mainly due to its over-use. However, here, regarding you, it seems like the only word that fits: in that these images fill me with awe. How appropriate that you should be growing and blossoming throughout early spring. Another over-used word: radiant, but you ARE!
