The Rain
All night the sound had
come back again,
and again falls
this quiet, persistent
rain.
What am I to myself
that must be remembered,
insisted upon
so often? Is it
that never the ease,
even the hardness,
of rain falling
will have for me
something other than
this,
something not so
insistent—
am I to be locked in
this
final uneasiness.
Love, if you love me,
lie next to me.
Be for me, like rain,
the getting out
of the tiredness, the
fatuousness, the semi-
lust of intentional
indifference.
Be wet
with a decent happiness

Rain? That's about the only thing we haven't been cursed with lately! At least you're frocking up and looking fabulous with your beautiful pillar box red coat and groovy umbrella despite kitty looking a tad distracted!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem! xxx
I know I think we had the 'best' weather in the country, no snow for a good fortnight! I've been inspired by you dear Vix to keep frocking up whatever the weather! Thank you my lovely!
DeleteThe red coat, your umbrella and beauty make the rain and mist a true poem. I bet the daffodils came out to see you.
ReplyDeleteI know I would.

Thanks so much my dear friend, I'm so glad you enjoyed the post! You say the loveliest things!
DeleteYour pics and poetry are always so lovely.
ReplyDeleteBecky :)
Ah I'm really glad you feel that, thanks Becky!
Deleteyour photos are always such a treat. lovely coat. lucyx
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Lucy!
DeleteWell, if it's going to rain, you need some bright colour and fabulous style to cheer up a grey day! Love the coat and umbrella, can't beat bright red for making a statement. Poor kitty with her ears back, she's not happy with the conditions, is she? xxxx
ReplyDeleteYou're right, poor little Nico hates the rain! But strangely loves the snow... Many thanks for your lovely words!
DeleteLove the coat. And the cat has that cross expression they use when something disgruntles them, it always makes me laugh.
ReplyDeleteIt's the ears isn't it! Makes me laugh too poor little love but she still faithfully follows me around like a pooch... Thanks my dear!
DeleteThat's a fantastic coat, sure to cheer up anyone who sees you in the rain!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you like it Lizzi, and how lovely that you popped by the blog to say hello!
DeleteOh I can see so much fun in your post:) The red coat love love love:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Joanna, I love the red coat too, such a timeless shape and colour!
DeleteSigh, I love red coats... Your red coat and pleated skirt look thoroughly modern and yet they are from your grandmother - proof yet again that quality clothes are genuinely timeless. I thought of little red riding hood when I saw these pictures.
ReplyDeleteAh what a lovely description dear Veshoevius, thank you for your kind words, I feel so flattered. There's something magical about a long red coat isn't there - granny Penny had the best taste!
DeleteMy dear girl, thank you for all your lovely comments on my blog. Love all your pics especially where you're twirling and twisting. The red coat and red umbrella are gorgeous and make the pictures so vivid. Btw they accomodate my preference for vibrant colours and they're a real antidote against the rain. And I love the fact that your clothes belonged to your granny. I must take out the one dress I have from my grandmother who has died more than forty years ago and make an outfit post. It's a black lace dress. I only wore it once when I was a student. Where did you make the pictures? Is it a park nearby? It's a fantastic background. I love the fuzziness of your images. That's the perfect way to communicate the feelings and emotions of Engish rain. Thank you for sharing the poem. In spite of that I'm wishing you a warm and sunny weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed the post dear Miss Maple! Vibrant colours are so cheering aren't they, especially in darker weather. You must dig out that black lace dress, it sounds gorgeous and I'd love to see you wearing it! Thanks so much for your lovely words - the sunshine came out in the end!
DeleteGlorious, striking coat against the landscape and glorious swirling you with the poppy umbrella. You've had soft rain?? We STILL have snow on the hills and biting, bitter cold, although there have also been sunny days to compensate. Oh, and you have daffodils too; such hopeful yellowness.
ReplyDeleteAh thank you so much dear Roz, that means a lot as I so admire the artistry of your own photographs! Yes soft rain, but even that's gone now, replaced by sunshine yay!
DeleteHi Kiki! I admire your connection skirt with wellingtons! It's beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Emnilda! It's Emalina here, Kiki was my talented dress maker grandmother. Thanks for your comment, it's great to meet you and to find your own blog, it looks like you have such a lovely art deco style!
DeleteThis coat is absolutely georgeous with the flowly dress it is divine!
ReplyDeleteAriane xxx
Ah thanks so much Ariane!
Deleteoh there is nothing as powerful against that springtime sadness (cause hello spring where are you?) like your bright red coat! lovin it!
ReplyDeletekiss,mary
So glad you think so my dear, thank you and fingers crossed spring is on its way!
DeleteGlorious. The misty backdrop behind the trees is enchanting and sets off your red coat beautifully! Lovely bright colours. The umbrella is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHow kind of you, thank you lovely Grande Dame! I'm delighted you enjoyed the post!
DeleteGorgeous coat, gorgeous ensemble, gorgeous photos and gorgeous you. I'm envious of that stunning backdrop, it's yet another rainy grey day here - if only we had those beautiful daffodils to brighten up the days.
ReplyDeleteI'm really so pleased you loved it so dear Willow, thanks so much! It's our garden in the wind and the rain.
DeleteI clucked with glee to see that your beautiful poppy brolly is vintage and belonged to Kiki - it's stood the test of time, downpours, gale winds so what a treasure it is! I love rain, always have, but I think even more so now that we're recovering from a decade-long drought. Now I want a garden again and we're renting and soon to move ... poo. One day. I love the pic of you running through the daffodils, your beautiful coat is such a glory and you look utterly gorgeous in it, especially with the pleated skirt peeking out so generously:) xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteSending you some of our rain my dear Desiree! It looks like you might have sent us some of your sunshine as it's finally becoming a little spring like here yay! Thanks so much for your kind words sweetheart, you mean a lot. Here's to your future garden, you will find it when the time is right.
DeleteSuch beautiful photos-lovely red coat with the flowers!
ReplyDeleteBlue Hue Wonderland
I love what a splash of red can do to grey skies. One would almost want it to be rainy always! Your kitty's photo is adorable. It almost looks like he/she has the handle by the tail. -- J xxx
